A DNA sequence encoding the extracellular domain of mouse EpCAM (NP_032558.2) (Met 1-Thr 266) was expressed, with a polyhistidine tag at the C-terminus.

The recombinant mouse EpCAM consists of 254 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 29 kDa. In SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, the apparent molecular mass of rmEpCAM is approximately 37 kDa due to glycosylation.

Epithelial cell adhesion molecule

May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E (By similarity).
