    CLE26 is a peptide related to CLAVATA3/EMBRYO SURROUNDING REIGON. It has the same amino acid sequence as CLE25 (except for one amino acid substitution). In this study, it was found that CLE26 is associated with drought stress memory and promotes survival rate at the second dehydration event. CLE26 peptide signaling confers drought resistance in Arabidopsis in a cell-wall-modifying gene-dependent manner. Its transport changes in plants previously subjected to drought stress, and its function and transport depend on a cell-wall-modifying gene, XYLANASE1 (XYN1). The synthetic CLE26 peptide is well transported in both xyn1 and drought-pretreated wild-type plants but not in untreated wild-type plants. CLE26 has a similar structure to CLE25 and CLE45, differing from CLE25 only at position 5 and from CLE45 in positions 4 and 7.
