The full-length Hyaluronan mediated motility receptor (HMMR) functions as a receptor for hyaluronic acid and plays a critical role in cell motility. Upon binding hyaluronan, it facilitates the phosphorylation of proteins such as PTK2/FAK1 and may regulate extracellular-regulated kinase (ERK) activity, contributing to cellular transformation, metastasis formation, and adipogenesis. It is localized to the cell surface, cytoplasm, and the cytoskeletal spindle, underscoring its involvement in dynamic cellular processes and signaling pathways.
