Nexilin, encoded by the NEXN gene, is an F-actin-binding protein critical for regulating cell migration through its association with the actin cytoskeleton. It plays an essential role in maintaining Z line and sarcomere integrity, contributing to cellular structure and motility. The protein localizes to the cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, adherens junctions, and specifically to the Z line of sarcomeres, with presence at cell-matrix adherens junctions but not at cell-cell junctions. This recombinant fragment spans residues 251-675, encompassing the functional Ig-like domain (aa 582-670), enabling targeted studies of domain-specific functions in cytoskeletal dynamics and cellular organization.
